Why learning the art of public speaking is more important than you think

The first schools of public speaking opened in Greece in the 6th Century. Since that time, it has been an integral piece of the educational puzzle for students in nearly ever corner of the globe - one that provides us an edge no other skill can.

While most of us will agree that the ability to speak effectively is important, few of us really understand the value of formal training in the art of public discourse. When you understand how to communicate clearly, you'll be able to recognize quickly when others aren't communicating well. This means that you will be the one to point out that your company's latest ad campaign needs to be revised to reach your target audience.
• Strengthening your skills as an active listener. A good speaker is a good listener. You'll absorb information quickly and process it even more quickly, weeding out the superfluous details and hanging on to the important facts. You'll remember what your clients tell you, and you'll gain their respect as a result.

You have the right and the obligation to contribute to your society, to teach others what you already know, to voice your opinions and to share your unique perspective. Finding your own voice allows you the visibility you need to succeed in your chosen field. No one ever became famous or made a real difference in this world by allowing themselves to remain invisible. You have incredible ideas and so much to offer - but if you let those incredible ideas wither on the vine, no one will ever know how valuable you really are!
