I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to go speak at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) for the UTEP College Republicans at an event called “Bridge the Divide.” The purpose of the event was to bring together students and non students alike in a common place to bring conservative and liberal issues together under one roof for a civil conversation and/or debate. The event was great and the people were beautiful. My specific speech at the event was called “boxes” in which I expressed the importance of people to become more individualistic and reject “boxes” that society including friends and family try to place them in.
I also participated in a Q&A with Gbenga Asedeko and Allum Bokhari afterwards which I believe was better than my actual speech due to it being interactive. We were able to respond directly to the audience in person about our individual speeches and any other personal questions they had. This form of interaction was perfect because a lot of these conversations are had through electronic means and not in-person, which can ruin the value and context of the conversation. My speech and the Q&A afterwards were just one part of the event, more from the event can be found below.
