Kenyan Patrick Loch Otieno (PLO) Lumumba public lecture at the Tiro Memorial Lecture at the University of Limpopo in Polokwane on 8 September 2017

Lumumba, Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya School of Law is also an advocate of the High Courts of Kenya and Tanzania.

The 2017 Tiro lecture commemorates the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of Black Consciousness Movement activist and President of the South African Students Movement, Onkgopotse Tiro.

In 1972, Tiro was expelled from the University of Limpopo after delivering a speech that sharply criticised the Bantu Education Act of 1953. This later became known as the ‘Turfloop Testimony’.
