Billionaire Warren Buffett told business students that this is the most valuable skill they can learn.

Imagine working on one skill that — once you improve it, it will generate all the leads you need for your business and position you as an industry expert.

Does that sound like a bold claim?

I guess it is, BUT I know it to be true because it is the key marketing strategy I turned to when I had my fitness business.

So what is that skill?

This one skill is public speaking.

Now before you say “No way! I’m not doing that”, please hear me out.

The dividends on the investment you make in sharpening your communication skills will pay off for the rest of your life.

Don’t take my word for it.

Listen to billionaire Warren Buffett’s advice to a class of business students at Columbia University back in 2009:

“Right now, I would pay 0,000 for 10 percent of the future earnings of any of you, so if you’re interested, see me after class.”

After the laughter subsided, he turned serious.

“Now, you can improve your value by 50 percent just by learning communication skills–public speaking. If that’s the case, see me after class and I’ll pay you 0,000.”

Buffett’s point is that mastering the art of public speaking is the single greatest skill to boost your business.

You might be thinking, “That’s great, but I have a fear of public speaking.”

That’s OK. Buffett was actually terrified too. So was I.

But once I plucked up the courage to do a 45-minute workshop to 6 women and 4 of them ultimately became clients, I was hooked.

Still to this day I am sure they signed up because they felt for me, because I am not sure they would have heard my words over the sound of the pages shaking in my hands because I was that nervous!!

The key point is I did it and like everything, the more you do something, the better you get. That one speaking gig generated me over £21,000 as 3 of the women stayed as clients for 3 years.

I took that first step and did my first speaking gig because I had little or no money to advertise when I first started but once I saw that it was a marketing tactic that worked, I made sure to do at least one speaking gig per month to targeted groups.

And so should you.
