Republican Donald Trump has been voted in as the new United States President. Trump stunned the world by defeating heavily favoured Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House, ending eight years of Democratic rule and sending the country on a new, uncertain path.
Trump won with 289 electoral college votes versus Clinton’s 218.
He needed just 270 to take the Oval office. World leaders have offered to work with Trump, but have also expressed anxiety over how he will handle problems from the Middle East to an assertive Russia and whether he will carry out a number of campaign threats.
