I had this for years. I would get it at parties, when I was in a new social environment. It was uncomfortable to say the least. But I found a way to get out of it.. and I would like to share with you how I did it.

Many people who are shy (or socially anxious) use alcohol when in social situations in order to not feel anxious. But in my personal experience, that is not the solution if you want to be confident and social. For me, stopping relying on ‘dutch courage’ in order to develop my social skills was one of the best things.

Then, you have probably heard the phrase that ‘practise makes perfect’. Well, the same applies for social skills like speaking to people, having a small talk, making great first impressions. You can only learn those skills if you practise. By staying at home and hiding from the uncomfortable is a sure path for living a life of anxiety.

And if it is very overwhelming you can start with baby steps. Approach a few people a day. But before that do your meditation. Meditation quiets the monkey mind and brings you in the present moment. In this way, you are not over-thinking a lot and it makes it easier to really connect with people.
