A Champion Speaker Needs Your Help to be Even Better!
This Thursday, July 6th, attend our meeting for a special treat! We will hear from Mark Skipper, who is the winner of the District 6 International Speech Contest in May at the District Conference.
He lives in Maple Grove, Minnesota and represented the TicTalkers of Plymouth during the competition. Mark’s speech is titled “The Power of a Hug” and is guaranteed to make you think twice about the impact of a simple gesture and how it can save lives.
Mark is still perfecting his speech and his counting on us to helping him with an additional evaluation so he can be as good and as sharp as possible. He’s getting ready for tough competition in late August. That is when he will go up against slightly more than a hundred of the best competitors from all over the world at the Toastmasters International Convention in Vancouver, Canada. The semi-final speaking competition takes place on the 24th. The winners of 10 different groups will head to the finals on the next day.
Mark tells us he just rejoined Toastmasters after an earlier stint in 1999-2000. He made it to District competition in 2000, but was disqualified when he ran over his allotted time. “I might not win,” says Mark as he thinks about Vancouver, “But I for sure will not go overtime.” Listen to Mark and offer him any helpful feedback as the District prepares to put its best speech forward.
