You don't have to do everything we suggest, but whichever elements you choose for your valentines day meeting theme, make sure to pull the threads throughout the meeting, e.g. if you go with just a red theme for valentines, get members to wear red, get your word master to work with red words, and get red provisions to brighten up the locale, etc.

Setting a romantic mood

You can set the mood through changes to the environment where your meeting takes place:

  • Give each guest/member a rose when they enter the room
  • Bring candles, red wine, candies/chocolates and set them on the tables for members and guests.
  • Ask members to wear something red before the meeting.
  • Print the program on red paper or add images like cupid or hearts to the frame.
  • Put movie posters like Casablanca or Romeo & Juliet (night at the romantic movies) on the wall.
  • Set the mood as if on a date with that someone special.
  • Put on some soft romantic music in the background (turn down when someone is speaking)

Toastmaster of the meeting

On valentines day it is often a good idea to remind people what Valentines day is all about. This can be done through the history of the day, or maybe as simple as to how it is celebrated in different countries around the world.

You might try dressing up as Cupid or Fate to add some extra spice to the event. Also come well prepared with lots of quotes about love and romance to pepper between speeches. What can also ad fun for the audience if you set them the task of displaying non-verbal listening gestures that have a romantic interpretation (and make a note of it when they do), e.g. lighters back and forth, contented sighs or batting of the eye lids, but keep an eye on it so it doesn't get out of hand.

After your Valentines day themed meeting has wrapped up, remember to clean up after yourselves.

Word master

Browse a thesaurus to get some romantic meeting theme words related to love and romance (which is a good place to find powerful and romantic words). To add something special, try writing down all the words used during the evening that has a love connection (which should be plenty as it is the theme of the meeting).

Table topics master

See this guide for ideas on romantic and valentines day table topic ideas.

For the table topics speakers, even though it is an unprepared session, you might prepare a bit by practicing using the synonyms of love in your normal conversations. Also try practicing short 1 to 2 minute speeches around random objects and make a romantic connection in your conversation.

Prepared speakers

If you know your meeting is a valentines day meeting theme well enough in advance, you can choose a topic and structure your speech to enhance the theme. For example, instead of just talking about your favorite car, you can talk about your favorite red car and why you love it to this day.

Evaluators

Pay special attention to emotions and passions that the speakers display and mention that in your evaluations.

Once again, your valentines day meeting theme needs not all be bells and whistles, as long as you keep the threads consistent throughout the meeting. Above all, have fun and enjoy the experience.
